What is the Best Reverse Phone Lookup Directory for Mobile Numbers?

The answer is more complicated than you may think. By the best we mean the directory that will quickly provide us with a complete picture for the unknown number. There are plenty of reasons why we might want to do this, for instance, we may run a small business and want to know if the caller was a potential customer. We may run a small blog and be always on the look out for opportunities to make money and the caller might have been someone we could connect with. Unfortunately, this complete picture exists only in an ideal world. Since there are a dozen different phone numbers (e.g. mobile, land line, Skype, toll-free, etc.) and there is no central directory that collects and keeps up to date records for all these different numbers, you may need to use more than one online directory to don out something about the number at hand.

Here is a list of the sites I regularly use when I need to look up a phone number.

1. Cell Revealer (CellRevealer.us)

This directory can trace mobile and landline numbers within U.S. Very easy to use. Log in with Facebook or email to perform a search.
Pros:

  • Extensive coverage, over 300 million numbers!
  • Intuitive interface.
  • Free unlimited lookups.
  • Extra tools that may come handy for tracking phone owner info.

Cons: Depending on the number, a payment may be required in some instances.

2. Spokeo (Reverse Phone Lookup Page: Spokeo.com)

A phone directory with social results such as web profiles, nicknames and other information – sometimes, even pictures of the callers. Also integrates many calling board feeds so you can search numbers that belong to telemarketers and such.
Pros:

  • Free unlimited searches.
  • Extensive preliminary results.
  • Search by phone number, name or email.

Cons: Requires payment for hard to find number (subscription based!)

3. Phone Number Spy (007PhoneNumberSpy.com)

A detailed service for tracing unknown phone numbers. Works well for land line numbers and many mobile numbers. And also offers a costlier service to track a mobile number via carrier database – for real time results.

Pros: Free to use and register for everyone.
Cons: Smaller database compared to the above two.

This is definitely not a complete list by all means. There are many more sites and directories that may or may not be useful for your particular situation. As a rule of thumb, I first type in the number on Google, then Facebook. Then I will check out White Pages and Yellow Pages. I will then head to the three sites I just listed above (I have accounts with all three so I save a lot of money on bulk searches).

And if all this fails, I will use some of the spying techniques to get some hints about who could be the caller. As a last resort, I will buy a carrier database lookup from a robust resource with law enforcement connections like NonPublished.com that will reveal the phone number’s identity in 90% of the time.

A reverse phone lookup comes handy for may of us who need to dig up some information on numbers that show up on our caller IDs, or the caller IDs of our loved ones, and in many, many other life situations, of course. Good luck with your search!
